RESIN SYSTEMS · BINDER FAMILIES

Ten Resin Binder Families

The resin determines chemical resistance, weatherability and cure window. Selecting the right binder is the first step in an anti-corrosion system.

01

Epoxy

Exceptional adhesion, chemical and abrasion resistance.

→ Heavy-duty primers, floor coatings, food-contact linings

02

Polyurethane

Abrasion-resistant, decorative, chemically resistant; 2K ambient cure.

→ Refinish topcoats, wood finishes, high-performance topcoats

03

Acrylic

Pale color, excellent weathering and alkali resistance; fastest-growing family.

→ Architectural latex, OEM automotive, plastics coatings

04

Alkyd

Largest-volume binder family, balanced performance, cost-effective.

→ General industrial paints, structural steel, architectural coatings

05

Phenolic

Outstanding acid and solvent resistance; heat-resistant.

→ Chemical piping internals, acid-resistant enamels, tank linings

06

Amino

Used with alkyd/acrylic; bakes to a dense, hard film.

→ Amino-alkyd baking enamels, OEM automotive, appliance panels

07

Polyester

Saturated and unsaturated types; high film build and gloss.

→ Powder coatings, coil coatings, premium furniture finishes

08

Vinyl

Including chlorinated rubber and VC resins; excellent corrosion resistance.

→ Marine coatings, chemical plant exteriors, container paints

09

Silicone

Exceptional heat and weather resistance; long-term high-temperature service.

→ Heat-resistant paints (400–600°C), exterior high-performance topcoats

10

Rubber-Based

E.g. chlorinated rubber; excellent water and chemical resistance.

→ Marine ballast tanks, chemical equipment, splash zones
