Curing Mechanism

The chemistry of coatings from liquid to solid: comparison of 5 mainstream curing mechanisms.

5 Curing Mechanisms

1. Epoxy - Amine Ring Opening

Nucleophilic addition, no volatile byproducts, shrinkage ~2%. Products: EP-ZR, EP-MIO, SEAL.

2. PU - Isocyanate Addition

NCO + OH / NCO + moisture, moderate exotherm, flexible. Products: PU-TC, TOP, SOFT-2K.

3. FEVE - Hydroxyl + HDI

Same as PU but main chain contains C-F, weathering performance soars. Products: FEVE-FC.

4. UV - Radical Polymerization

Second-level cure, requires UV light, watch out for oxygen inhibition. Products: UV-PR, GEL-UV.

5. Condensation Type (Silicone/Alkyd)

Dehydration dealcoholization condensation, requires baking or oxidative drying. Products: HT-400/600.
